[08/03/2006] Marijuana for sale in pots... artificial!

An interesting way to enjoy marijuana without breaking the law, and at the same time earn good money, was invented by 51-year-old American Joseph White. As AP reports, the businessman created the company New Image Plants, which very successfully sells “artificial marijuana” in pots. The company's employees produce artificial marijuana bushes from silk and wood; outwardly, they are no different from living hemp bushes, but are not prosecuted by law.

As Joseph White himself believes, "The registered business name reflects what I am trying to do - create a new image for these plants. They are beautiful plants and people should be able to enjoy them without fear of arrest."

He founded a nonprofit called Climate Change in 1999 to, he says, spread the truth about marijuana.

Joseph White decided to protect hemp from constant attacks regarding the content of narcotic substances in this weed: “I believe that the more people begin to appreciate the natural beauty of the jagged leaves and stems, the better the attitude towards this plant will be.” A year and a half ago, work began on the production of artificial plants, and since then, White’s organization has been successful: hundreds of organizations and individuals wanted to purchase legal hemp bushes. Flowering marijuana models sell from $80 to $190, and plants that do not have flowers cost from $65 to $150 depending on the size of the plant.

Many people buy artificial marijuana bushes to decorate their homes and country houses. Interestingly, law enforcement agencies often come across organizations that purchase White's products, as they need silk hemp as teaching aids. In addition, the products are in demand among club party organizers, university professors of natural sciences, and simply those who like to give unusual gifts.

The owners of the artificial marijuana factory say that their product is no different in appearance from real hemp, so they do not take responsibility in advance for the limited number of people who want to smoke silk leaves. The American product can be purchased online, although it is unlikely that marijuana copies will be sold as freely in Russia as they are abroad. Experts suggest that the distribution of such products may fall under the jurisdiction of the criminal article concerning the ban on drug propaganda.
