Drug dealers add lead to marijuana

German doctors have reported that street drug dealers are adding lead particles to marijuana packets in order to artificially increase the weight of the dose and, consequently, make more profit.

Franziska Busse of the University Hospital of Leipzig reported that lead particles make up 10% of the contents of marijuana packets sold on the streets of German cities. The addition of lead can increase profits from selling the drug by $1,500 per kilogram.

Doctors learned of the practice after 29 patients with lead poisoning symptoms were admitted to Leipzig clinics in a short period of time. Three of them arrived at the hospital with their own marijuana supplies. A marijuana study revealed a disturbing phenomenon.

Doctors then initiated an anonymous drug test program that identified another 200 people with signs of lead poisoning.
