The State Drug Control Service was explained what cannabis is
21.07.2004
A heated discussion between Kormiltsev, Shiryanov and Yakemenko under the supervision of the Federal Drug Control Service took place in the coffee shop of the Central House of Entrepreneurs on Pokrovka as part of the Cycle of Literary Discussions on Current Topics "AutoGraphics in the Central House of Entrepreneurs", organized by the Internet project "Real Literature: Female Genus". The topic is really relevant, it couldn't be more relevant: books are being banned in Russia again. At first, they were torn up in public and people were hysterical. And not so long ago, in a number of cities in our country, which hasn't had time to properly enjoy freedom, publications that in one way or another touched on the topics of sex, drugs and, to a lesser extent, violence were withdrawn from stores. Everyone is equal before the Federal Drug Control Service: both classics and modern literature were blacklisted.
The composition of the participants in the discussion that took place on the evening of July 14 in the coffee shop of the Central House of Entrepreneurs on Pokrovka clearly did not imply a final consensus. To understand this, it was enough to read the quotes that the organizers of the evening announced.
Kirill Vorobyov, "Writer of the Russian Land", academician of the Internet Academy, whom everyone stubbornly called Bayan Shiryanov (although it has long been known that he died): "I became the gravedigger of Russian literature, a pornographer and the embodiment of world evil, because I called for mercy for the humiliated and insulted by the authorities."
Two representatives of the Federal Drug Control Service with the rank of lieutenant colonel: "It is no secret that films shown on television, programs, publications in magazines and newspapers, and books published about drug addiction and drugs have a serious influence on attitudes toward drugs."
Ilya Kormiltsev, poet, translator, editor-in-chief of the publishing house “Ultra. Culture”: “Epatage does not play any role in our activities. Shocking is the creation of an irritant for the so-called “public opinion” (i.e. the opinion of the owners of society) on out of the blue. The topics we have chosen are objective stimuli."
Finally, the fourth collective participant is the All-Russian public organization for the promotion of youth education "Walking Together": "We cannot allow those who are now 16 and younger to think that Sorokin and Erofeev are genuine literature, "Leningrad" is genuine music, Safronov is genuine painting, Tsereteli is genuine sculpture."
It should be noted that the Federal Drug Control Service avoided the "book discussion" with a clever legal feint: "We work within the legal framework, within the law. Books, T-shirts and other goods with suspicious symbols are removed from sale and trade organizations are punished by a court decision after a comprehensive examination." What court and what examination, and whether anything can be changed in them - those present wisely left this topic, since otherwise the discussion would have gone nowhere. Well, Lieutenant Colonel Maxim Borodulin, a senior detective for especially important cases, misspoke, saying that even botanists were involved in the examination, and they confirmed that the T-shirts depicted "marijuana plant". "There is no such plant!" - K. Vorobyov corrected him to laughter from the audience. - There is a hemp plant..." It happens to everyone.
The hall was turned on by something else: a clash between writers and an organization that had arrogated to itself the special right to judge what can be read and what cannot be read under any circumstances. Or, as a last resort, “set up a stall near the station, where you can write that these shelves contain the best works of Russian pornography.”
Everyone saw on TV the "Marchers" action at the Bolshoi Theater with their fake toilet, and how they tore up Sorokin's books, but "there is not a single person who saw how we burned books" (Vasily Yakemenko). As if tearing is nothing, it is possible...
To Kormiltsev's words: "Yes, I consider our books to be very harmful, and we all understood perfectly well that we would have to face the state, a bandit, neo-Komsomol state," Yakemenko responded: "We believe that Bayan Shiryanov and Vladimir Sorokin should not stand on the same shelf with Chekhov and Tolstoy." Yakemenko's contrast of today's "marginals" and the classic of Russian literature Bulgakov was especially surprising. As if Mikhail Afanasyevich had not written the story "Morphine"... And Vasily Yakemenko, who believes that he is helping to educate the youth, asserts (to laughter in the audience) that there is no need to read a book to understand that this is a bad writer, it is enough to look at him, the writer.
The writer Vorobyov says that what does not provoke sensual lust (and what else is pornography supposed to provoke?) is what stimulates disgust in a normal person and, perhaps, some sympathy, basic pity, as for a dead bird; the educator Yakemenko objects that pornography is everything that does not fit into the framework of good taste. "Whose taste?!" is a cry from the audience. "Ours!" is a cast-iron answer.
Well, could they agree on anything?.. The host of the evening, the head of the project "Real Literature" Elena Pikunova in an interview for the TV channel "Culture" before the discussion began, said that her goal was to find at least some common ground. You will laugh, but the points were found. A period, to be more precise. Both Yakemenko and Vorobyov-Shirianov agreed that extreme literature should be sold in special places, in cellophane, with a warning. True, Vorobyov's special place is a separate shelf in a store, and Yakemenko's is a forest 150 km from the nearest populated area, but at least that.
And then there was "just a student" - no, not from "The Walking Ones", "just a student", who, stumbling and bleating, tried to read an excerpt from Shiryanov's "Aerobatics". He chose it too harshly to make the ladies present blush. And then the writer Vorobyov read from the same book: "I'm not saying "drugs are good". I'm not saying "drugs are bad"... I'm pouring out everything that has accumulated. All those facts that I myself have either witnessed or heard. I don't want to give an assessment. I have no right to do so. I don't judge. I'm just a writer. Even a descriptor in this case. Akyn. The only thing I can say so directly and like a slogan is: Don't do as I did! Don't follow me! God forbid you experience what I went through!"
