The regional courts have completed hearings on a number of criminal cases initiated by the Office of the Federal Service for Drug Control (FSKN) of Russia in the Tula Region. Currently, the verdicts have entered into legal force, the press service of this department told a REGNUM correspondent. Thus, the Shchekino City Court sentenced gr. Knyazev for attempted sale of narcotic drugs on an especially large scale.

Earlier in the spring of 2005, employees of the Office of the Federal Service of the Russian Federation for Drug Control in the Tula Region learned that one of the residents of the city of Shchekino, Tula Region, was looking for a buyer for a large batch of marijuana. Employees of the Department, under the guise of buyers, met a certain gr. Belov and agreed to purchase this narcotic drug. Belov turned to his friend Knyazev for help. On the appointed day, Belov and Knyazev met with the intended buyers, taking precautions: before selling 5.8 kg of marijuana, they hid it in a destroyed building, and only after they were convinced that the buyers had money, they sold part of the drug "to sample." They never managed to sell the rest of the marijuana, as they were detained by the Department’s employees.

At the trial, Knyazev denied his participation in the crime. However, the court recognized the defendant’s testimony as an attempt to avoid criminal liability for committing a particularly serious crime. The previously convicted Shchekin resident was sentenced to 10 years in prison to be served in a special regime correctional colony. A decision was made against Belov to impose compulsory treatment in a psychiatric hospital.
