Amsterdam Changes Mind About Smoking World's Largest Joint24.11.2006
The Dutch capital has cancelled the event to smoke the world's largest "joint" (a cigarette filled with marijuana instead of tobacco), Gazeta.ru reports.
The organizers said they cancelled their plans after realizing they might break the law. "We just read the fine print and realized there might be problems," said one of the organizers of the failed event. The participants wanted to roll a 1.5-meter joint with 500 grams of pure marijuana and smoke it in a bar. It was assumed that with 100 participants the event would be legal, since each person would have 5 grams of marijuana (the amount permitted for individual use). "Unfortunately, it looks like this is not possible," the organizers said. The event was meant to break the record for the largest joint - officially considered to be a cigarette containing 100 grams of marijuana. The police also commented on the hypothetical action, calling it illegal. "We would certainly investigate it. If you roll half a kilo of cannabis into one cigarette, that is illegal," a spokesman said. © Tabloid Leaflet
