Drug prices soar in Russia

The liquidation of several thousand drug dens and the seizure of large quantities of drugs have led to an increase in prices on the Russian "black market" for psychotropic substances, the Russian Federal Drug Control Service (FSKN) reported on Wednesday, October 25.

"In most Russian regions, there has been a rise in prices for almost all types of drugs, including heroin and marijuana - by 1.5-2 times," said a representative of the Federal Drug Control Service's Public Relations Center.

He said that this year, through the efforts of the Federal Drug Control Service, about 3 thousand drug dens that operated in large Russian cities and regional centers were liquidated.

"Drug dens in organized crime structures act as stable lower links in the distribution of drugs. The danger of drug dens is that their activities are aimed at expanding the distribution of drugs, primarily by involving young people. This year, more than 3,000 crimes related to the organization or maintenance of drug dens have been identified," said a representative of the Federal Drug Control Service.

The agency's source also reported that Federal Drug Control Service officers have begun to confiscate more synthetic drugs that are smuggled into Russia from Europe.

"This year, more than 900 million doses of synthetic drugs have been seized in Russia," he said.

According to expert data from the Federal Drug Control Service, up to 6 million people in Russia use drugs. 15 million Russians have tried drugs at least once in their lives.
