We ordered “weed” from Amsterdam – the package was delivered by a “postman” with the rank of major

A couple from Rishon Lezion, in their early 50s, decided to order marijuana from Amsterdam. The valuable parcel was to be delivered by registered mail. This is how it all happened, but it did not bring the couple the expected joy, since the postman handing over the cargo turned out to be disguised as a policeman.

The day before yesterday, the hapless customers were arrested. Since then, they have probably not tired of cursing the postal service, due to whose error their "letter" from Amsterdam was delivered to a completely different address. The hard postal envelope was no different from the others, except for its contents, which consisted of 60 grams of select Indian marijuana, sent to two residents of Rishon LeZion by special order.

As Maariv writes, unfortunately for the couple, the "weed" fell into the hands of a simple-minded citizen, but not so simple-minded that he did not report the unexpected message to the police and pass on the find to them.

A man named Ran Batat, with a thick bag on his shoulder, rode a simple bicycle to the very address where the letter would have arrived if things had turned out differently. The simple postman Ran Batat, who knocked on the door of a furniture store, was a police major, and this distinguished him from all the other postmen in the city, and perhaps in the entire country.

A potential buyer was wandering around the furniture store, and it was not immediately possible to recognize him as a man in uniform. "The postman came and handed the package to the suspect," said Major Shmulik Rozental, deputy chief of the Rishon LeZion police department, yesterday. "She signed for the package and immediately hid it somewhere in the back of the store. Of course, this is not what people who receive packages from abroad do. She knew exactly what was in there. Unfortunately for her, we knew it too. A few minutes later, a policeman who was in the store approached her, introduced himself and asked about the contents of the package. She immediately confessed and said that the package was actually intended for her husband."

The police are currently planning to file charges against the pair of customers for drug trafficking and importation, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years, even though the quantity of imported product involved was small.
