Drug police helped an Island resident harvest cannabis

The hotline of the Federal Drug Control Service of Russia for the Pskov Region received a message that a 43-year-old resident of the city of Ostrov in the Pskov Region was growing hemp in her garden. This was reported to a PAI correspondent by the chief specialist of the information and public relations group of the Federal Drug Control Service of Russia for the Pskov Region, Nadezhda Kireeva.

She said that drug police officers had gone to the location specified in the message. In addition to the hemp growing in the woman's garden, dried plants stored in the attic of her home were found. All the hemp was confiscated and placed in the Department's storage room. According to the expert's conclusion, the total weight of the drug-containing plants was about 20 kilograms. As of today, a criminal case has been opened against the Ostrov resident for growing and selling hemp.

Nadezhda Kireeva reminded that the cultivation of plants containing narcotic substances is prohibited by Article 231 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Illegal cultivation of poppy and hemp is punishable by a fine of up to 700 minimum wages or imprisonment for a term of two to eight years.
