Israel has abandoned the use of marijuana to treat soldiers

An experiment using marijuana to treat post-traumatic stress disorder in former Israeli army soldiers ended before it began. It turned out that there was nowhere to store drugs.

The experiment was devised by the leadership of the medical service of the Israeli armed forces. To begin with, it was planned to "treat with marijuana" 15 people suffering from post-traumatic stress syndrome acquired during combat, Cursor reports.

It was hoped that controlled use of marijuana could reduce anxiety levels in patients, most of whom suffer from nightmares.

The experiment was canceled due to the fact that none of the pharmacies that were supposed to store stocks of marijuana for patients agreed to participate in this experiment due to the impossibility of guaranteeing the safety of the drug, fearing its possible theft.

According to the Israeli Defense Ministry, more than 2,000 former soldiers suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder are registered with the country's Armed Forces medical service. Almost half of them are veterans of the 1967 war.

In a number of countries, particularly in the Netherlands, marijuana, or more precisely its chemically active substance, tetrahydrocannabinol (TGC), is used as a painkiller and sedative in patients suffering from incurable cancer, HIV/AIDS, multiple sclerosis and various types of neuralgia.
