Russian rugby players caught smoking marijuana

Two members of the Russian national rugby team, whose names have not been disclosed, were caught violating anti-doping laws by using marijuana while participating in the IRB Nations Cup international tournament held in Portugal at the end of June. This information was confirmed to the Ves Sport agency by the general manager of the Russian national team, Dmitry Afinogenov.
"We do not deny or dispute the facts of the violation of anti-doping legislation and the use of marijuana by two of our players," Afinogenov said. "Although questions remain. Under what circumstances was the violation committed? What punishment will follow? These questions will only be answered in a week, when the International Rugby Union announces its verdict. Then we will name the athletes and tell all the details of the incident."
According to the World Anti-Doping Agency's anti-doping code, marijuana is a prohibited performance enhancing drug, but is listed under "soft drugs" in the list of prohibited substances. The most common punishment for smoking marijuana is public censure or a three-month disqualification, as well as the annulment of the results.
