Poppy and hemp in the Chelyabinsk region are observed from space

At present, law enforcement officers of the Chelyabinsk Region are actively identifying places where drug plants grow wild, a REGNUM correspondent was told on July 20 by the press service of the Federal Drug Control Service for the Chelyabinsk Region. Moreover, the operatives are not only driving around the fields in vehicles. The Federal Agency Roscosmos has joined the search for drug-containing plants.

Poppy and hemp growing areas will be recorded from space using orbital satellites. When such places are identified, land users will be held administratively liable and will be ordered to destroy poppy or hemp growing areas.

Let us recall that since the start of Operation Poppy, drug police have opened 280 criminal cases under articles related to illegal drug trafficking. More than half of them are classified as serious and especially serious. About 40 kilograms of drugs have been confiscated, including more than 20 kilograms of marijuana.
