Marijuana has become the basis for a new drug

Cannabis, due to the substances it contains - cannabinoids, has long been considered as a means of lowering blood pressure.

However, its psychotropic properties, which led to undesirable effects including hallucinations, proved to be a serious obstacle to its therapeutic use.

Working under the supervision of Professor Raphael Meholam, Maor created a synthetic version of the substance cannabigerol, which is found in cannabis, but lacks psychotropic properties.

Yeshua Maor is still only a student, but his work in the field of cannabinoid research has already received recognition in the global scientific community (membrana.ru)

As laboratory experiments on rats showed, the new substance reduced blood pressure.

Further testing has shown another beneficial effect - relaxation of blood vessels.

But that’s not all: as further research revealed, this substance also had an anti-inflammatory effect.

Maor hopes that these properties can be useful in developing drugs that are especially needed to treat vascular inflammation caused by hypertension or metabolic disorders.
