Every tenth teenager in Belarus has already smoked "weed"06/21/2006
The emergence of a new potent drug, trimethylfentanyl ("white Chinese"), which in its pure form is thousands of times more potent than heroin, has been noted. At the same time, marijuana and hashish remain the most commonly consumed drugs among the younger generation. This is due to the relative cheapness and availability of the latter.
Often, the consumption of the deadly potion occurs in the most popular places of leisure for young people - night clubs, bars and computer clubs (there are more than 3 thousand of them in the country). Over the first 5 months of the current year, police units have carried out more than 4 thousand operational and preventive measures in these establishments, as a result of which 278 crimes (including 84 serious and especially serious ones) related to illegal drug trafficking were identified.
Facts of distribution and consumption also occur in schools and higher education institutions. And not only on the part of pupils and students, but also in the teaching environment. Thus, in the spring of this year, two physical education teachers from one of the capital's schools were caught red-handed for illegal turnover of psychotropic substances by employees of the Department of Internal Affairs for Transport of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus. Around the same time, in Grodno, the involvement of a teacher from Grodno State University in the sale of marijuana among the university's students was established.
In order to study the dynamics of drug addiction among young people, the police department conducted an anonymous survey in a number of educational institutions. According to the results, every tenth teenager has tried marijuana, 2% of respondents admitted to being familiar with ecstasy, and the same number do not know what they used. In general, young men and women are well informed about the existence of various types of drugs, but are poorly aware of the consequences of their use. About 75% of respondents in Svetlogorsk said that they do not condemn those who use heroin. According to the survey, the problem is most acute in Minsk, Svetlogorsk and Shchuchin. Only 30% of the total number of respondents consider drug use unacceptable.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, today 127 people per 100 thousand people in Belarus use drugs. This is a lot, but significantly lower than, say, in Russia and Ukraine (approximately 3 and 2 times, respectively). At the same time, the number of drug-related crimes has increased in Belarus by 26% over the past 5 years, and three quarters of them were committed with the participation of young people.
