A resident of Kuban persuaded an 11-year-old boy to use drugs

The Gulkevichi District Court is considering a criminal case opened by drug enforcement officers against 25-year-old Sergei, a resident of the village of Maikopskoye, who works as a carpenter and is accused of drug possession and inciting a minor to use drugs. As reported to a REGNUM correspondent by the press service of the Federal Drug Control Service (UDC) of the Russian Federation for Krasnodar Krai, the young man, who had an outstanding conviction at the time of the charge (at the age of 17, he was sentenced to seven years for robbery), came to the attention of the police after repeated complaints from his neighbors. They claimed that teenagers regularly gather at the young man's house. They usually come in the evening. They were doing something chemical, as evidenced by the toxic smell of solvent. The youth dispersed, swaying from side to side, sometimes freezing, sometimes squatting in place.
One of his neighbors, who had argued with the carpenter more than once and testified as a prosecution witness, told how the young man not only suggested that she sow hemp in the garden, but also recommended that she smoke weed when she was unwell. It is not known how long this would have continued if not for a statement from the mother of one of the teenagers, whom the accused taught wood carving. According to her, one day her son's behavior changed dramatically. He became withdrawn, irritable, and dropped out of school. Then she was told that her 18-year-old boyfriend often visited Sergei, a local drug addict who had recently been released from prison. The worried mother decided to talk to him. What she learned shocked her. Her son and his friend really did visit him in the evenings and smoke hashish. Later, when the woman learned that the drug addict she had talked to was suspected of persuading the teenager to use drugs, she decided to testify against him.
During interrogation, the young man testified that in November 2005, he had collected wild hemp in the forest belts near his native village in order to make hashish oil at home using solvent extraction. As for the minor he was teaching wood carving, he had indeed not only described to him the whole range of pleasant sensations from using it, but also showed him how to do it. The victim, an 11th-grade student, admitted to the investigation that he had long wanted to try marijuana. Once, he even went into the forest and picked some hemp for this purpose. He chopped up the dry tops and stuffed the grass into a cigarette. He smoked it, but unfortunately, he felt nothing. After some time, he met Sergei. Having become a regular at his company, he finally got a taste for marijuana. He liked it so much that he decided to smoke "weed" from time to time. Later, an older friend showed him how to make "chemistry", as a drug made from cannabis treated with solvent is also called. Another time, when the eleventh-grader came to visit the accused, and he began to make the potion, the police came to the house. The police literally took the cup with "chemistry" from the hands of the accused as material evidence. During the inspection of his house, a bag of cannabis was found. The teenager was sent for a medical examination. Then there was a commission on minors. Having gotten off with a fine of 500 rubles, the schoolboy decided not to touch drugs anymore.
The accused fully admitted his guilt in the acts charged against him. During the investigation, he said, he reformed, found a job in his specialty, quit smoking cannabis, and at the moment no one comes to his house anymore. He sincerely repents of inducing a minor. If proven guilty under Part 2 of Article 228 “Illegal possession of drugs on an especially large scale”, Sergei faces a sentence of imprisonment for a term of 3 to 10 years and under Part 1 of Article 230 “Inducement to use drugs” - imprisonment for a period of up to 5 years.
