One Brit says: 'I won't stop smoking weed'26.05.2006
Keith Thomson had his own cannabis plantation, which was confiscated by the police. When questioned by police after a raid on his home, Thomson said he would never give up smoking marijuana. Keith Thomson, 53, was taken to Wootton Bassett police station ( Wootton Basset ) on Thursday after police found eight cannabis plants in the bedroom of his home. He was released without bail and Mr Thomson, who says the drugs were for his own use only, insists he will continue to smoke dope: "I'm not going to stop smoking dope, man, no way."
"It's a normal thing, not like many people think, and it's not just clowns like me who smoke. I smoked again an hour after being released. Personally, I think if we all sit down at the table and roll a joint, there won't be any wars or any showdowns. We can put on Pink Floyd and go ahead. Okay, I broke the law, but it's not the crime of the century."
Mr. Thomson's wife, Annie ( Annie ), 45, was also arrested in the police operation at their home, but her husband insists she has nothing to do with the plants. "If I had known the police would arrest everyone, I would never have grown weed at home," he says. "It's all mine. My wife has nothing to do with it. A couple of bottles of light beer are enough for her to get dizzy."
Police say confiscating the drugs would have stopped them appearing on the streets of Wootton Bassett. But Thomson, a father of two who has been smoking cannabis regularly since 1975, said: 'It's not a factory. I'm not a dealer, I grew the weed for myself. It's one thing to smoke it and another to sell it. It sounds silly but I'm against drugs. I don't take pills or anything like that. You won't find a single person on the planet who I've sold weed to.'
He says he smokes 10-12 joints a day and started growing his own plants because the weed was costing him $150-$200 a week.
“I decided it would be cheaper to grow my own plants,” he says. “I bought a cheap car, resold it and bought some lamps.”
Mr Thomson insists that weed has nothing to do with his poor health, which leaves him disabled by back and hip problems. "When people say that smoking weed helps them cope with pain, I don't tend to believe them," he says. "I'm not going to make up excuses like that. I smoke it because I enjoy it."
Article from "UK Swindon Advertiser"
"Let Keith smoke marijuana in peace" The vast majority of our readers believe Keith should be allowed to smoke weed in peace. We hear the 53-year-old father of two refuses to give up smoking weed, even after police visited his home. More than 1,500 of our readers voted by phone and online, and 92% back the Wootton Bassett smoker. Only 8% think it is wrong.
Mr Thomson: "I'm overwhelmed by the response. I know we're a small group, but it's a diverse group of people."
After Thomson asked permission to smoke, mental health charities began to raise awareness of the drug's dangers. Kathleen Aitken ( Kathleen Aitken ), manager of the charity organization " Swindon and District MIND ", claims that long-term smoking of weed is directly linked to psychosis. A representative of the company " Druglink " also says that addicts who use hard drugs such as heroin and cocaine often start by smoking marijuana.
But Mr. Thomson responds: “I've been smoking for almost 30 years and haven't gotten hooked on anything like that, and I'm quite happy about it. I'm not going to stop after 30 years of 'experience', and I'm not crazy or paranoid like these people say."
When police raided Mr Thomson's home, they confiscated all eight of his cannabis plants. Mr Thomson says the weed is for himself only, and now the police have forced him to do some illegal things. "All the police did by taking the weed away from me was to turn to the dealers," he says. "I don't know what the money is going to go towards. Maybe a gun. I was just trying to be self-sufficient."
Mr Thomson also criticised those who oppose marijuana but are not averse to alcohol. "I'd like to know how many alcohol-related brawls the police have been involved in in the last three months, and how many weed-related," he said. he says. "I bet there weren't any due to marijuana, but there were plenty due to alcohol."
