The Duchess of Northumberland has received official permission to open her garden, which the English public has already dubbed Poison Garden. Among other things, the garden grows hemp, opium poppies, hallucinogenic mushrooms and coca. The BBC reports that the Home Office has granted permission for the Alnwick Gardens Trust to open to the public. Visitors will be accompanied on tours by Home Office staff. The botanical garden at Alnwick Castle was created solely for scientific and educational purposes. The architect was Belgian Peter Wirtz. In addition to the aforementioned plant species, the garden is supposed to grow another 50 poisonous plant species, including poisonous foxglove, tobacco, and wild lettuce, used in medicine as a tranquilizer. The Duchess of Northumberland commented on the opening of the garden: "Drugs are a very emotional subject. The opening of the garden gives people a chance to discuss the problem of drugs, many of which are extracted from wild plants." lenta.ru
