Marches of supporters and opponents of marijuana legalization took place in Kyiv

Kyiv. May 7. On Saturday, in Kyiv, as part of the global march Global Marijuana March, the action for the legalization of marijuana "March of Freedom" was held. At the same time, a protest action against the demonstration of supporters of the legalization of soft drugs was held in the capital.
Law enforcement officials estimate that about 300 people took part in the march for the legalization of marijuana, while the number of people protesting against it exceeded 800.
The organizer of the "Freedom March" was the association of civil initiatives "Objective Reality", the action was held under the slogan "Legalize yourself". Global Marijuana March is held on May 7, 2005 in 180 cities of the world, including 54 European ones.
The protest against the "marijuana march" was organized by the drug addiction rehabilitation center "Love" together with the leadership of the church "Embassy of God" under the slogan "Marijuana - away from Ukraine".
Both columns gathered at Sofiivska Square and marched along Prorezna and Volodymyrska Streets, before descending onto Maidan Nezalezhnosti. On opposite sides of Khreshchatyk Street, the demonstrators staged concerts. Marijuana lovers organized a drumming performance and an ethnic music concert, while their opponents sang religious songs and danced in circles.
Participants in both events chanted “Ukraine – without drugs” and exchanged propaganda literature.
Notifications about holding mass actions, coinciding in place and time, were provided to the capital's administration on the same day. This was reported to the Interfax-Ukraine agency by the organizers of both marches.
Taras Ratushny, a representative of the civil initiatives association "Objective Reality", called the Kyiv City State Administration's position "a deliberate provocation".
Rehabilitated drug addicts from the "Love" center took part in the action against legalization.
