Marijuana medicine officially patented in Canada04/21/2005
A marijuana-based medicine has been patented in Canada. Thus, Canada became the first state in the world to officially allow the use of cannabis for medical purposes. Previously, only 10 US states legally allowed the use of marijuana for medicine. Health Canada announced yesterday that its expert commission approved the use of the marijuana-derived drug Sativex. Sativex is intended for the treatment of pain in patients suffering from multiple sclerosis. In Canada, more than 50 thousand people suffer from multiple sclerosis. There are about 400 thousand of these patients in the United States, and more than 2.5 million worldwide, AR reports. The marijuana industry is one of the fastest growing industries in Canada. The authoritative American newspaper Christian Science Monitor writes about this. According to the publication, so-called “grow houses” have become widespread in almost all Canadian provinces, primarily Alberta, Ontario and Vancouver. These are perfect greenhouses, equipped with the latest science and technology, with heating, aeration and watering, in which hemp is grown. Clandestine agronomists produce several harvests per season, and their annual profit ranges from 4 to 7 billion dollars. Canadian “marijuana exports” are mainly focused on the United States. CSM is trying to figure out what is causing the rapid spread of marijuana in Canada. The newspaper's conclusions are that the northern neighbor of the United States has too lenient laws against those who grow and distribute this drug. But the main thing, the newspaper believes, is that Canadian society has developed a hyper-tolerant attitude towards this type of drug. It is becoming increasingly difficult for the police to fight drug agronomists, since the former enjoy tacit support in society. Even former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien has repeatedly stated that he himself was not averse to “puffing.” In November 2004 In Canada, a law was passed according to which possession of 15 grams of marijuana is not a criminal offense and is only punishable by fines. A little more, notes CSM, and legalization of marijuana may come in Canada. Let us remember that in 2001 In Canada, the cultivation and use of marijuana for therapeutic purposes was legalized. In this country, anyone with a chronic illness, including epilepsy or muscle or bone wasting, can use marijuana to relieve pain. In order to obtain official permission to use cannabis, you must have a doctor's opinion and two experts who must sign the authorization to use the drug. The Canadian Medical Association opposed the law, believing that all the necessary research had not been done to calculate the doses needed for patients. Canadian doctors also argued that the interaction of marijuana with traditional medicines has not been sufficiently studied. top.rbc.ru
