A Syktyvkar lyceum student received ten years in prison for drug trafficking.

Ilya Smetanin, a manager of a Syktyvkar company and a student at a vocational school involved in drug trafficking, received a ten-year prison sentence. The Syktyvkar City Court recently handed down the sentence. As reported to Komiinform by the press service of the Federal Drug Control Service for Komi, 22-year-old I. Smetanin, known in certain circles as Baron or Kitayets, was detained in Syktyvkar in April last year. The operatives captured the dealer after selling 600 grams of marijuana for 40 thousand rubles through an intermediary.

During the special operation, Baron tried to escape from the operatives in a BMW. Special forces blocked the foreign car at the intersection of Sysolskoye Highway and Oktyabrsky Prospekt. During the search, the Syktyvkar resident was found to have money from selling weed and confiscated it.

The lyceum student had been registered with law enforcement agencies for a long time and was under police surveillance. He was suspected of selling herbal drugs to young people in especially large quantities.

During a search of Kitayets' apartment, the police detained a young man who had come to collect a debt. I. Smetanin, who owed money for a car wash, offered to pay with marijuana.

The preliminary investigation accused the Syktyvkar resident of illegal sale of narcotics and illegal acquisition and storage for the purpose of sale of drugs in especially large quantities. The court's verdict is ten years of imprisonment to be served in a maximum security penal colony. The sentence has not yet entered into legal force and can be appealed in the Supreme Court of the Republic.
