Drug dealers corrupted 50 thousand Mexican Indians10.02.2005
Mexican Indians are being forced to abandon the traditions of their ancestors, which they have followed for centuries. This is happening due to pressure from drug mafias. This is stated in a report by the Mexican National Institute of Anthropology and History. Instead of traditional crops, Indians now grow poppy and marijuana, Reuters reports. For thousands of years, a 50,000-strong Indian community lived in the remote canyons of the Sierra Madre Occidental Mountains. During this time, the Indians grew mainly corn. At the same time, the Indians were not averse to indulging themselves in drugs, but they did not do it on an industrial scale, but for personal use. The Indians worshiped the gods of the sun and moon. However, with the advent of Christianity in Mexico, Catholicism was added to the traditional Indian religions. Having adopted the Western faith, the Indians, however, did not stop chewing hallucinogenic mushrooms. Now, however, the Indians are forced to abandon their time-honored traditions. They grow poppies for sale and switch from horses to expensive cars. According to anthropologists, drug traffickers were able to make changes even in the religious beliefs of the Indians. Now, instead of traditional Catholic saints, the indigenous people of Mexico honor the patron saint of drug traffickers, Jesus Malverde. newsru.com
