Two pensioners detained with 20 kg of marijuana at Kazansky railway station

As a representative of the department explained, "due to the tightening of control over passenger traffic at Moscow airports, drug dealers are forced to use rail and road transport to deliver drugs to Moscow. In this regard, drug police officers are conducting preventive raids to identify and suppress channels for the entry of drugs into the city via the main highways and through the network of railway stations in the capital."

During another event at the Kazan railway station, two elderly women, citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan, who had arrived in Moscow from Aktyubinsk, were detained.

The pensioners attracted the attention of the detectives by their behavior and the presence of large luggage. Each woman had several large travel bags in her hands and on carts, and the pensioners themselves were noticeably nervous.

As a result, 19 packages of compressed marijuana were found in two of the women's travel bags during the search. At first, the women answered the drug police officers' questions rather vaguely, got confused in the details, put forward different versions of the reasons for their arrival in Moscow, but then confessed to everything. They were promised a good pay for transporting the marijuana.

As Interfax reports, this is not the first time that drug traffickers use cash-strapped pensioners as couriers to transport drugs by rail.

According to preliminary estimates, the weight of the seized drug exceeds 20 kilograms (more than 10 thousand single doses), and its cost on the black market is about 60 thousand dollars. The women were arrested and face up to 20 years in prison.
