The State Drug Control Department for the Volgograd Region recently announced a new stage of the "crusade" against drug propaganda. Not long ago, as NI already wrote, the drug police imposed sanctions on products advertising "weed". Five criminal cases have been opened in the region against sellers of mobile phones with images of marijuana. Now it's the turn of "drug-containing" literature.

As the head of the prevention department of the drug control department, Filipp Karpachev, told Novye Izvestia, the drug police themselves, of course, cannot admit whether a book advertises drugs or romanticizes drug addiction. "This will be determined by philologists and other experts," explained Filipp Karpachev, "we only pay attention to this or that work, and professionals in this field will confirm or refute our assumptions. The court will put the final point." The sanctions are known: a fine of up to 500 minimum wages with confiscation of advertising materials may be imposed on the distributor of such literature.

However, drug police will read not only fiction. The authorities have already opposed the distribution of the popular brochure “Harm Reduction,” which the public organization “Maria” tried to “introduce to the masses.”

So, from the brochure you can find out that it is better to replace citric acid with an ascorbic acid tablet when preparing a heroin solution. From the same collection, a novice drug addict will learn how to filter the solution and how best to inject the prepared drug. Moreover, a list of medications that have a “heroin” effect on the central nervous system is provided as useful information. The manual is replete with phrases like “When you buy heroin from an unfamiliar dealer, do not take the dose immediately, especially in a vein. Snort it or inject half - in any case, you can always add the rest.” Or "Don't use heroin alone. It's better if you have a friend with you."

The militant plans of the drug police were also supported by Volgograd narcologists, who, however, somewhat doubt the high effectiveness of the “crusade”: “I’m not sure that the method of reviewing and removing literature from sale will be an effective means of combating drug addiction,” says the chief physician of the Volgograd Drug Rehabilitation Center Vasily Yemtsov - Theoretically, it is possible to persuade a person to use drugs with the help of literature, if, for example, the book colorfully describes the sensations after taking narcotic drugs. However, in my opinion, methods of working with children in schools are more useful - conversations, watching special films. “It’s not the book that gets you hooked, but the company.” In addition, drug addicts don’t particularly like to read, and the Internet is available to sufferers, where it is simply impossible to fight drug propaganda.”

The city's bookstores are not too concerned about the Federal Drug Control Service's initiative. The sellers are unable to familiarize themselves with all the printed products that come to the shelves. "Let them provide us with a list of "forbidden" literature," says Irina Gordeeva, a sales consultant at one of Volgograd's bookstores. "Then we will neither order nor sell these books."
