Korea to be Seeded with Hemp

The cultivation of a plant from which, as is known, such a drug as marijuana can be made, has now become a state priority for the DPRK, writes Gazeta. In the near future, at the behest of North Korean leader Kim Jong Il, whose orders are followed without question, hemp will flourish in all collective farm fields, as well as plots belonging to factories, schools and hospitals.

The DPRK government equated the “Revolutionary Plan for Growing Hemp” (this is the official name of the document) with the significance of the “Revolutionary Plan for Growing Potatoes” and the “Revolutionary Plan for Harvesting Two Harvests per Year” - the foundations of the DPRK’s agricultural program. Rodong Sinmun calls the implementation of the hemp cultivation plan a sacred revolutionary duty of the Korean people. “Cultivation of hemp leads to waste-free production,” say the authors of the program. From the seeds you can extract hemp oil, which is used for cooking and making soap. The stems of the plant will be used for the textile industry, which will turn them into coarse spinning fiber. In addition, they can be used to make paper, and the waste can be fed to cattle. "Nodong Sinmun" calls for sowing hemp not only on collective farms, but also on any unoccupied land in general: near factories, factories, schools and hospitals. The mechanization of growing and harvesting hemp has become a “national project” in the DPRK: soon new varieties of hemp will be developed in this country and ultra-modern technologies for its cultivation will be developed.

The Rodong Sinmun calls cannabis "the sun-like Kim Jong Il's greatest love" and "the essence of his benevolent affection for the people," and says the new program is being launched under the leader's watchful eye.

Meanwhile, the international community fears that North Korea will find a much more profitable use for this plant: for example, a drug such as marijuana can be obtained from it. In the conditions of total poverty in which the DPRK finds itself, its leaders may try to replenish the treasury and their pockets through the sale of drugs, and drug traffic from North Korea may also pass through the Russian Far East.
