Ford to Make Cars from Hemp25.07.2007
Ford intends to begin producing body parts for cars that will be made from an herb called Cannabis, which is better known as hemp.
The creation of the hemp machine will be partially financed from the UK budget – the British Department of the Environment is allocating about $1 million for this program.
The processed hemp will be mixed with polypropylene. And this material will be used to make body parts. The "hemp" body will be significantly lighter than steel, which will ultimately provide lower fuel consumption and reduce emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere. In addition, the production of hemp parts pollutes the environment significantly less, and in the future these parts will be easier to recycle.
