Italian scientists have found particles of marijuana and cocaine in the air of Rome. According to Angelo Cecinato, an employee of the National Research Council of Italy, the highest concentration of prohibited substances in the air was recorded in the area of ​​the capital's University La Sapienza. However, the scientist warned against drawing any conclusions about the habits of students studying there on this basis.

This is the world's first study of the composition of the urban atmosphere, aimed at detecting traces of cocaine in it. For the study, the authors of the project took air samples in Rome, the city of Taranto in the south of the country and in Algiers, the capital of the state of the same name in northern Africa. Traces of nicotine and caffeine were found in the air in all three cities. According to the scientists, this fact reveals how widespread the consumption of these substances is and how long they remain in the atmosphere, the portal Invictory.org reports.

The maximum concentration of cocaine in the Roman atmosphere was recorded in the winter months and was 0.1 nanograms (a nanogram is equal to one billionth of a gram) per cubic meter. However, even such a small amount of the drug in the air can seriously harm people's health, Ivo Algerini, a representative of the National Research Council, is convinced.
