As stated in the report by American researchers, their work is capable of significantly clarifying the mechanism by which a person develops addiction to narcotic substances.

Morphine blocked the brain's ability to form direct neural connections, which significantly affected the levels of substances that determined a person's level of satisfaction with life.

According to the study's leader, professor of molecular pharmacology and biology, Julie Kauer, in an experimental study on rats, it was found that morphine blocked the ability to form connections for a period that significantly exceeded 24 hours, even after the obstacle in the form of the substance was removed.

Despite the fact that there was no morphine left in the brain at that time, it turned out that its effect had a long-lasting aftereffect in the form of blocking neural connections.

If the drug suppressed predominantly the connections that had an inhibitory effect, the person fell into a state of excitement and euphoria.

According to the researchers, such a mechanism allows not only to understand the effect of drugs on the brain and their ability to suppress the processes of memorization and learning, but also to develop fundamentally new methods of treating addiction taking into account this basis of addiction.
