American University Teaches How to Grow Marijuana

Students at Oakland University in Oakland, California, are taught how to cultivate cannabis, differentiate strains of the plant, and navigate the legal intricacies of the subject.

The school, which is located in a store in the city center, was founded by activist Richard Lee. Students must pay for two textbooks and a $200 fee for a two-weekend course. So far, 60 students have attended the course. The student with the best grades is named "Best Graduate."

Students give a variety of reasons for taking the course. Some enroll out of curiosity, while others, who suffer from chronic migraines, depression and anxiety (the conditions marijuana is used to treat), want to learn how to grow it themselves.

The Drug Enforcement Agency said it was aware of the school's existence but had no objections.

It is worth noting that California became the first state to legalize marijuana use on doctor's recommendation. Currently, there are 300 to 400 establishments where you can buy cannabis, writes The Houston Chronicle.

An interesting detail: the name of the university is formed from two words – Auckland (it was in this city that some of the first medical marijuana dispensaries appeared) and Amsterdam in Holland, where marijuana is legalized.
